International Women’s Day…Introducing Rachel: 8th March 2017
We hope you are enjoying learning about some of the fantastic women within Randox Biosciences on this year’s International Women’s Day! After a great insight from Maeve about her work as part of the Molecular R&D team, we are moving into business development to catch up with our USA Team Leader, Rachel Fullerton…
Hi Rachel! Firstly, tell us how long you have been working for Randox Biosciences.
I’ve been working in the Randox Biosciences team for 3 and a half years.
Has your role changed since the beginning of your employment?
I originally started my career at Randox as a Marketing Executive in 2013 which was a great way to learn about the products and services that Randox offer. My background is in marketing so it was a steep learning curve, but starting in this position helped me understand what Randox do before getting in front of customers in a sales position in early 2015. I started by covering the European market for our life sciences product range before excitingly taking a role as the USA team leader for all of the Randox Biosciences product ranges in mid-2016.
Can you tell me a little about your position and what you do on a day-to-day basis?
My day to day tasks involve keeping in touch with current customers, helping them with any queries or orders they have, researching new territories and customers, following up on outstanding orders and keeping track of all business occurring in the USA. My role also consists of regular travel and I would spend approximately 1 week per month in my market, visiting customers and attending industry conferences.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I very much enjoy the freedom I have within my job, as in I plan my own travel and create my own strategies for my market. There is a strong sense of accomplishment when you introduce Randox to a new customer and they straight away want to work with you. Due to the travel aspect of my job, it also means that every day is not the same, I never thought a 9-5 office job would be for me so the fact I get out in front of customers keeps things fresh and exciting.
What is your proudest accomplishment at the job?
To date my proudest accomplishment is securing a team leader position in one of our largest markets. I am proud that I have managed to move from marketing to sales, to a managerial role within 3 years and this is a big achievement for me.
How did you know a career in business was for you?
To be very honest, I didn’t, I think it’s very hard to come out of education and know exactly what sort of job you would like to do. Randox Biosciences have been so flexible and given me so many opportunities throughout my time here that it was a great place to start my career as I was able to try new things.
Do you have any advice for other females interested in pursuing the same line of work?
Don’t be put off by lack of experience, we all need to start somewhere and although it is sometimes difficult, it’s great to keep learning new things, especially in the biotech industry as so many new discoveries happen every week. I also have a strong support team at Randox Biosciences so help is always available.
Don’t leave us just yet as we will be introducing you to another member of our fabulous team to support International Women’s Day!
