Last but certainly not least, we have the pleasure of introducing you to another one of our research scientists at Randox Biosciences on this year’s International Women’s Day. Introducing Hayley Johnston….
Hi Hayley! How long have you been working for Randox Biosciences?
I have been working at Randox Biosciences as part of the molecular diagnostics R&D team for 1 year.
Can you tell me a little about your position and what you do on a day-to-day basis?
My job involves the development of new molecular assays which will be used to improve healthcare worldwide. Day to day I work with both molecular scientists and engineers developing and optimising assays.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I enjoy how interesting and diverse my job is. I work on both molecular and engineering projects which positively challenges me. The combination of these two areas means my role is varied so I am always learning new skills. It’s also great to know that I am in a position that allows you to branch out into other areas of the business.
What is your proudest accomplishment at the job?
When working in research and development you have little accomplishments every day when an experiment works the way you anticipated. At the minute, I’m looking forward to the completion of my current project and I’d say when this day comes, it will be my proudest accomplishment to see my hard work pay off.
Finally, any advice for other females interested in pursuing the same line of work?
I would encourage women interested in science and research roles to go for it! If you want a career that is interesting, challenging and varied then a role in scientific research is perfect.
