National Stress Awareness Day – 1st November 2017
National Stress Awareness Day, recognised annually on the 1st November, is a national l initiative aiming to raise awareness of the important of stress and the impact it has on our overall health. Stress is the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them at work.1
Over 11 million days are lost at work a year because of stress at work.2 Stress may not be an illness but it can lead to one. This is why it is important that a stress free environment is incorporated into the workplace, which Randox Biosciences strive to maintain. By recognising the signs of stress, we as an employer can help lower and manage stress to create a positive working environment.
Excessive stress can interfere with your productivity and performance, meaning the difference between success and failure on the job. Even though you can’t control everything within your work environment, it doesn’t mean that you are powerless as there our steps you can take to stop the damaging effects of stress.
- Reach out – share your stress with someone close to you, the act of talking it out and getting support and sympathy can be extremely effective in regaining your sense of calm.
- Healthy Lifestyle – it’s easy to neglect your physical health when you’re over focused on work. However, when you have a nutritional diet and exercise regularly, you’re stronger and more resilient to stress.
- Sleep – Being stressed may make you feel like you don’t have the time to get a full night’s sleep. By limiting your sleep you are interfering with your day time productivity, creativity, problem-solving skills and ability to focus. The better rested you are, the better equipped you’ll be to tackle your job responsibilities and cope with workplace stress.
- Prioritise and Organise – Take practical steps to regain control when stress threatens to overwhelm you. Create a balanced schedule to balance between work and personal life. Plan regular breaks to get away from your workspace to help you relax. Finally, don’t over commit yourself, distinguish between the ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ to allow yourself time to finish everything.
At Randox Biosciences, we are dedicated to the development of innovative diagnostic tests to improve patient care and diagnostics worldwide. We globally recognise how stress can affect employees within the workplace and we work towards maintaining a healthy working environment to help our employees avoid being stress.
